This is a new style of hotel, comprising both hotel rooms and apartments, which opened in April 2011 after converting a 23-year-old student dormitory.
In July 2016, the hotel underwent a renewal, completely renovating the wing previously used as student dormitories into guest rooms. While maintaining the original concept from its opening – "showcasing the ever-evolving contemporary art and culture of Kyoto" – elements of "Wa" (Japanese aesthetics/harmony) were incorporated, and the focus on art was further enhanced.
Under the new theme of a "365-Day Art Fair," art pieces available for purchase are displayed throughout the building. Concept rooms have been created by over 10 artists and groups, including Kohei Nawa and Mika Ninagawa.
The hotel actively disseminates various information with a focus on art, through artist collaboration events, gallery events, and more.
