Hospice ChipataThe
hospice is a comfortable place
for terminal patients to stay and to be taken care of. The building
provides a stay for 24 to 36 people in a building with a CO2
footprint smaller than an average Dutch household.
The
building is constructed around a central core, a central space for
the staff office, medication and supplies. Around this core a wide
corridor links all the rooms together. This corridor also offers
space for family and visitors to stay.
The
circular form makes the building not only very efficient and clearly
organized but also pleasant to stay. The building has been
prepared for easy extension. The first phase concerns the
construction of 12 rooms with 2 beds and shared sanitary units. The
second phase offers once more 6 rooms with sanitary units. In the end
the hospice offers room for 36 people. The hospice will
be built by the local community with locally available materials and
is self-sufficient. Electricity will be generated , a dedicated water
supply is provided and the whole is conditioned in a natural manner.
