Inspiration
Horizontal White was inspired by the width of the panoramic view from this private residential plot.
The facade concept, with a predominantly white finish, offers maximum transparency and allows the spectacular surroundings to penetrate the interior while protecting against intrusions.
Composition
The double-layer facade concept comprises an exterior double-glazing of mainly transparent panels, and an interior layer of structurally independent steel mullions, both of which, created using non-linear rectangular shapes, compose the overall design language, inspired by De Stijl. The interior layer also works as shelving, and can accommodate elements such as coloured glass vases that add even more atmosphere to the internal space.
A unique and dynamic feature is the aquarium-style boxes cantilevering form of the exterior layer, with coloured glass panels interspersed throughout to help maintain privacy but at the same time bring in atmospheric light.
For this project, we worked closely with a small handcraft steel fabricators, how allowed us to create a unique yet simple project with a modest budget.
Use
The new enclosed space, dedicated to reading and free time, is also furnished with bookshelves designed as an extension of the facade and fixed on the lateral wall inside the house.
