A semi public archive facility is to be designed in the heart of Paris on Quai de la Tournelle. The focus of the project is Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project, a vast collection of notes, citations and essays that the archive will hold. The ambition of the project is to evolve the archive and surpass its outdated traditional role in today’s culture of technology and speed. It captures fragments of everyday Parisian street life and brings them together in its façade to attract a wider audience, whilst giving back to the population the space that is taken up by the building.
