Hongtu Capital Plaza [2014 Design Competition]

Prominently located across from the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, the site is the gateway to the Shenzhen Houhai International Financial District. This development comprises of a 230m 50-story tower and a 3-story retail podium. Total GFA is 108,300 sq.m.
The design is inspired by the image of a vortex – its dynamic upward twisting motion is a metaphor of the company’s venturous, progressive and bullish identity – and with a sense of permanence. Sculptural in form, the tower twists and soars into the sky with a commanding presence – as an image of growth and prosperity. A rectilinear Retail Podium anchors the design to the City Fabric, integrating the development to its neighbors. The reddish terra-cotta exterior mimics the project name – RED EARTH, and injects a splash of color to the neighborhood.
