Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities - International Design Ideas Competition
As a gateway between Hong Kong and Macao, ARRIVING WAVES serves as a symbol of the entrance to the harbor, a border crossing and reconciliation between the rapid development and the fragile eco-system it resides in.The site is broken up into three parts, each with its unique canopy, differentiating the experiences of border crossing. The first canopy covers the passenger clearance zone, access paths and a translucent dome that serves as the passenger clearance building. The second and third canopies cover the inbound and outbound private vehicles and good vehicle. The canopies organize the site and serve 6 main purposes:Create a unified iconic presence for ARRIVING WAVES within the Hong Kong harborExtend the experience of crossing the border from a line to a thresholdCover the passenger clearance building and active screening of cars from rain and sunReduce the amount of exposed asphalt on the site to reduce the heat island effectOrganize a water collection and remediation system that cleans and controls the return of surface runoff to the Hong Kong harbor Unify public areas, staff areas and service buildings within the site
