The original kitchen space was very dark and impractical, there was a disconnect between living and dining spaces and limited space for existing furniture. The new design opened up the space to create a light filled generous space that connected the activity of cooking with that of hosting guests. The kitchen island bench became a celebrated centrepiece where family and friends could gather, and the open plan allowed for better circulation and furniture placement.
It was essential that the kitchen be hard wearing and easily cleaned; the kitchen includes a stone bench top, mirrored splash back and laminate finish to cupboard doors and drawers. The existing timber flooring was extended into the cooking area for continuity and flow.
