After the 150-year-old Holy Cross campus in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward
was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Broadmoor Design Group completed an
extensive and detailed damage assessment of the 9th Ward campus and
developed the modular facilities to support current enrollment.
The Holy Cross Board elected to relocate the school to a new 20-acre
site in the Gentilly area, which required immediate relocation of the
school population. To accomplish this, Broadmoor Design Group once again
developed a modern, modular campus for the Holy Cross student community
in Gentilly, while initiating the master plan for the new campus to be
built on 20 contiguous acres of land. The initial phase included design
and construction of 190,000-sq-ft in four structures.
The new campus is designed to resemble the Romanesque Revival period
style of the former Administration Building, originally constructed in
1849. The Broadmoor Design Group / Blitch-Knevel Team worked with the
Board, administrators, parents and students to devise a site plan which
would contain over 200,000 square feet of educational buildings, playing
and practice fields, and parking for 250 vehicles, while maintaining
the existing live oak trees.
The final design was developed with five separate and purpose
designed structures intended to enrich the student experience for the
next 150 years – Middle School Building, High School Building,
Administration Building, Student Center, and Chapel / Cafeteria – with
additional areas designated for future expansion.
