Holocaust Memorial for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by David Ascalon was implemented following an international design competition sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg. The project is located on the City of Harrisburg's Capital Area Greenbelt on the banks of the Susquehanna River, several blocks from the state Capitol. The project consist of a memorial plaza featuring a black granite low wall with sand-carved inscriptions; and a towering Holocaust memorial sculpture composed of fabricated/welded stainless steel and weathering steel (i.e., Cor-Ten steel). The contains integrated lighting and drainage. It was dedicated in 1994.
