Originating at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the design for the Phoenix Art Museum Hollywood Costume Exhibition addresses three concurrent themes. Building on the subject of the exhibition, the experience is choreographed to be cinematic, yet metered. Challenging the way we typically experience movies, the costumes are displayed in their ‘working environment’, as if on a soundstage on a film lot. Expanding the exhibition into a more whole experience, the back-of-house is counterpoised by the front-of-house experiences with the red curtain entrance and the colorfully merchandized gift shop.
