Holloway Lightbox is a photography studio, a screenwriter’s retreat and a flexible family space. The sustainable skin was made using waste timber fibres; the tiles are a low carbon alternative to the more commonly used concrete/cement mixes. More than 1200 tiles were made by hand over a three week period during which there was extensive testing of forms, mixes, reinforcements and pigments.
Holloway Lightbox was built by Studio Bark, via it’s construction arm Studio Bark Projects. The pioneering build was assisted by architecture students for the practice’s annual ‘Bark Live Build’ and the ‘UEL Construction Week’. Students gained experience in hand casting, timber construction and technical detailing.
