Planted in autumn 2024, this 30-sqm roof garden is a truly verdant outdoor space, abundant in focal points, biodiverse planting, 3D bespoke planters, seating & wall lighting.
The roof garden is the crowning pinnacle of a Holland Park townhouse & its extensive renovation, situated above the property, entirely secluded, very sunny & enjoying an unobstructed 360-degree bird’s-eye panorama above a leafy residential square.
Custom-made 2-tone planters produce generous focal points, planted with profuse greenery for autumn colours. with Penstemon, Salvia, herbs & grasses which create redolent tapestries, while elevating well-being for both wildlife & the clients. The planters are wholly unique, made only once for this specific project.
2 pairs of the 3D planters were designed with angles, a deep recess & set onto rubber tiles which create sleek shadow gaps. Powder-coated in Pine & Pale Green, these 2 hues harmonise & accentuate the lush planting.
We selected a deep maroon for the masonry walls to increase depth, add contrast & bring warm tones conducive to the sunny situation. This background elevates the green planters & foliage, generating dainty silhouettes both night & day.
Facilities include kids’ veg potting garden, a bbq, HAY Palissade furniture, decking, irrigation & lighting. The project was enabled by an external furniture lift which conveyed all goods & plants to the rooftop, due to its inaccessible location through the house.
Planted primarily for autumn colours, the crimson foliage of the Dogwood tree, grasses flower spikes (Miscanthus , Pennisetum & Panicum), 3 cultivars of Salvia & 2 Penstemon varieties are carpeted by a multitude of aromatic herbs.
In springtime, 2 Lilac trees produce perfume & purple blossoms defining the rooftop as a landmark viewed from street level across the locality. For our clients & 2 young children, this roof garden maintains all-year-round outdoor happiness savoured in privacy, where playmates, family & guests relish the edible garden, cook & sunbathe enveloped by soulful biodiversity.
