The whole project was a challenge, given the client’s request that the design office should deliver a turn-key building and also given the location. The plot is crossed by a mountain river, only a small area being left between the road and the river. Therefoe, the building had to be placed over the river. The bridge and the retaining walls, built in stone masonry with reinforced concrete core are part of the project.
The above ground part of the building is built entirely of wood. The large spans are achieved with laminated timber beams up to 13 meters long. The volume is marked by the 12 meter high chimney, build entirely in stone masonry with reinforced concrete core. The entire wooden structure is left exposed on the inside.
Natural materials were chosen for the interior finish: oak and travertine for floors, black slate and teak sandstone for bathrooms, pine cladding for walls.
The ground floor is an open space with kitchen, dinning and chimney area. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms. In the basement, there is a second living-room and a service area.
