Hoffmans Brickworks, formally Nubrik has been a project developed over a number of years in a variety of stages. To date, we have built over 250 dwellings ranging from large townhouses to multi-density apartments. The next stage will involve the development of the derelict heritage-listed structures, the kilns which are being sensitively transformed into apartments. MGS Architects are involved in the Brunswick site, acting primarily as design consultants. In the mid-90s, the then planning Minister Rob McClelland approached MGS (then McGauran Soon Architects) to create clarity regarding the site’s future direction. “Unoccupied spaces, even if they are deemed heritage, tend to be neglected. Heritage buildings need to be used to survive,” says Architect Rob McGauren, one of six directors of the practice.
