he Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI) is one of the preeminent cardiovascular centers on the West Coast. To continue its high level of care, HVI planned a new three-story, 120,000 square-foot replacement expansion. However, with the unknowns of healthcare reform and the reality of a nationwide economic crisis, Hoag and its team of planners, including Taylor Design, looked for a more efficient solution, and established the viability of renovating an existing space on the Newport Beach campus while moving other hospital functions to their neighboring sister hospital in Irvine.
The new Heart & Vascular Institute renovation encompasses 61,680 square feet and was completed in four phases. The three initial phases encompassed a hybrid surgery suite, catheterization lab and renovation of the public spaces, both exterior and interior. Phase 4 was the final phase which focused on the renovation of the outpatient clinic. The project’s overall goal was to distinguish the Hoag Heart & Vascular (HVI) Brand by consolidating the HVI services that make up the institute. The Heart & Vascular Institute brings together the Valve, Endovascular, Arrhythmia, and CHF specialties into a singular care team environment to help foster a high level of team collaboration. The goal of the final phase of the clinic renovation was to provide a user centered experience that encompasses all types of users, from patient to staff to community.
Program: The new Heart & Vascular Institute renovation includes a hybrid OR surgery suite, catheterization lab and renovation of the public spaces, both exterior and interior, as well as the renovation of the outpatient clinic.
