The project is located in Surabaya, East Java. The tropical climate features are the hot temperature, has high humidity and rainfall. The challenge is that the site takes place in the hook, which has two faces. One facing west and the other facing north.
The owner wants a comfortable house with good air circulation. They want to separate each areas from service area, semi public, and private area. Therefore we decide to make the building in three floors.
Ground floor is intended for service area, storage, parking, and maids area. The first floor is for living room with open plan area that blends with dining room and pantry, then there is a swimming pool and guest bedroom. The second floor only for kids bedrooms dan master bedroom.
The swimming pool is placed on the first floor to maintain privacy from the road. It is in the void of the building that penetrates to the north side, making it easier for the wind to enter the building. The living room is next to the swimming pool with wide glass openings, thus maximizing the exchange of air from outside into the room. With this, we hope that the air circulation in the building will occur properly. In the second floor we maximize only for bedrooms.
To overcome the western sun, we placed transition area on the west side like the staircase.
We also designed a custom shading steel plate on the west side of the staircase wall to reduce the intensity of incoming light while giving a shadow beam effect in the staircase area.
In fact, this two sided site provides more advantages where we can capture more airflow into the building.
