Building construction and creation of infrastructure supporting HM White’s urban open space designs for first three building parcel’s at King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia are well underway. Set within Henning Larsen’s urban plan and in collaboration with FXFOWLE International, HM White has conceived of a series of pedestrian oriented urban plazas, courtyards and streetscapes inspired by regional topographic and vegetative typologies. Principles of environmental sustainability are instrumental to each landscape design initiative. Maximizing grey and storm water harvesting and filtering within vegetative structural systems establish a legible landscape character while improving human comfort levels and extending seasonal outdoor living comfort. Out of the 128 planned building parcels, HM White’s public landscape designs and their environmentally advanced doctrines were the District’s first three parcels that established high precedent standards by which subsequent development parcels are measured and compared. Project completion is anticipated for spring 2012.
