The apartment’s owner is a young couple and 2 children. The original apartment plan includes the following functions:
1. Entrance
2. Living - dining room
3. Kitchen
3. Toilet
4. (1) Master Bedroom ( toilet included)
5. (2) Bedroom
The functions are sufficiently responsive and immediately usable after the owner move in, however the expandable and optimization of functional spaces when changing the proportions, both in vertical and horizontal, enhance the spatial experience of inside people.
The solution is rearangement the ratio between functional spaces to suit the needs of use.
1. Narrow the entrance.
2. Break down the kitchen partition wall, connect the dining room - living room with kitchen to create a larger public space.
3. Expand the master bedroom space, at the same time make the children’s bedroom space smaller to match the subject’s body ratio.
The original ceiling is absolutely flatten. To change the feeling of space, which should be more dramatic and suit for the fit-in furniture, the solution is making the different between functional spaces, by changing the height of upper interior surface.
For the most effective use , In addition resize the ratio of functional spaces , the design of furniture is carefully considered. Typically, the solution is using a big shelf storage instead of partition wall between the public space and children bedroom. The 30cm width of the shelf is optimized ( void part inside, solid part outside and vice versa). The shelf’s side in children bedroom, the void part was designed to match the reachability of a kid; and in the other side the remaining void part was used collectively.
