Finding a Strong Identity for HKCCSA was our prime design objective - celebrating its past and anticipating an energetic and jovial future.
Our design sought to symbolically fuse its Past and Future (through the pixelated façade (Future) and preserving the existing façade (Past). Integrating a sustainable building and phasing strategy that is takes
into concern on maximizing revenue, management and operational eciencies, and environmental green building features (natural ventilated open spaces, sun shading screens, green roof and landscaped
features). Deriving a physical connection (through introduction of an internal street for art-making and public expression), that also provides functional and harmonious connection to the neighbourhood.
The physicality of the architecture expresses a renewed identity that synthesizes the value of Community based on past and future. It derives a sense of CONTINUITY, through housing dierent programmes
harmoniously into one closely knitted SOCIAL BUILDING/FABRIC. The central entrance heavily used now, will be kept and expanded, to become an INTERNAL STREET, where the public (circulating to SCAA) and members will be encouraged to enter and interact. The street will be populated with Community ART, exhibitions and social programme, and fronted with a ‘WALL OF FAME.’ Our design provides a narrative for a STORY of CONTINUITY, a new vision with sustainability in mind for a community that has had a long history in contributing to our society. It recreates a physical and virtual social network that regenerates new visions for the city. Spaces allow the greatest flexibility for this network to grow and benefit HKCSSA as well as the external society. This dynamic network, like a self-sustaining ecosystem or self-marketed media-landscape, brings together the INTERNAL COMMUNITY and EXTERNAL COMMUNITY.
We adopted a multi-disciplinary approach. Apart from deriving the RIGHT DESIGN, we are concerned with executing the COMPLETE PLAN to realizing the DESIGN through considering a business model, operations and marketing.
