This custom designed building is a tribute to the adjacent park and the lake. The building is ground-up construction and is conceived primarily in concrete so that the building will age along with the Park. The intent is that as the building ages, it will look as if it has always been there.
The building’s exterior has two perforated, triangular facades covered in ceramic tiles, as traditional colonial roofs would be designed. The triangular facades serve as a heat and sound barrier and the ceramic tiles are intended to mimic the leaves on trees.
The building is home to two restaurants, one restaurant is fine dining and the other restaurant is casual dining. Each restaurant functions independently and has unique décor, furniture and cuisine.
Separately, visitors enter the two restaurants in such a way that they feel like they are entering the park.
Higuero is a casual dining restaurant located adjacent to Arrozsal.
The rectangular space is entered through a long corridor of transparencies.
Visitors first enter into the bar area that features a solid Corian bar and custom lighting fixtures that are a homage to the decrease of blackouts within the country.
The dining room features a ceiling of wood branches constructed in a traditional manner similar to fences located in the south of the country. The dining room is separated from the bar by a custom-designed, three-dimensional “pilon” metal screen. The “pilon” is a commonly used tool in local food preparation. The dining room is separated from the Kitchen by a brightly colored glass panel. The tile flooring is custom-designed and hand fabricated locally in the Dominican Republic.
Tables are spaced closely together, and a glowing communal table contributes to the casual concept of the restaurant.
An outdoor dining terrace provides guests with a view of the lake.
All furniture was custom-designed by the Designer, and constructed by artisans in the Dominican Republic
