Situated above the parking garage of a modern house in Highgate, this 1st-floor rooftop soaks up the scenic lush woodland which envelops it.
We designed 4 outdoor spaces for the clients: front, side & back gardens, leading to the roof garden.
We designed a hardwood screen with horizontal slats to enclose the rooftop which was rundown and unsafe. The Balau hardwood is further featured in the decking and the cladding which border the built-in kitchen.
A herb trough is sunken into the slate work surface of the bespoke BBQ, alongside a rotisserie and cupboards.
We designed one-off powder-coated planters, with square tree ones and rectangular tubs which float above a recessed plinth and featuring an angled top fold detail.
A multi-stemmed Paperbark Maple provides an architectural focal point in the far left corner, merging into the woodland environment, along a handful of deciduous shrubs & trees for winter scent, spring blooms and autumn colour.
We selected a smooth buff sandstone for the dining area, separated by an LED strip light between the wood & stone at an angle. This angularity creates depth of space in the small squared space.
The sandstone continues into the 2m cantilevered stairs which lead up into the adjacent room, floating on a powder-coated steel frame, with LED lighting beneath.
The natural materials and lushness of the plants all fuse with the sylvan surroundings, soaking up sunbeams in low-key presence & warm, deep, earthy tones.
