This project involved significant alterations and additions to a turn-of-the-century cottage sitting high up above the city on a small corner-lot site. The house is well set back from the corner, affording a private and open garden courtyard and pool area from where one can enjoy the city views. The house itself enjoys a progressive and overt contemporary “sleaving” of the new through the old. The finishes, which consisted mostly of black-butt and travertine, offer a beautifully crafted and contemporary feel to the otherwise complex and quite unpredictable floor plan. The inclusion of rich Calcutta stone in the kitchen and en-suite finish off a luxurious and highly detailed sequence of intimate spaces.
