With a steep rocky site, with elevated and panoramic views of the Squamish Chief, the brief by the client was to provide privacy to the road, whilst providing optimized and focused views to the mountains. The house also needed to connect and provide access to the property at the rear, to allow the owners to create a vegetable garden and area for their sauna.
The house is orientated on two axis, south-east and south, with the living space projecting out, which, whilst creating a focal point at the end of the volume, allows the south west side of the space to also look out to the mountains and sea beyond. The primary bedroom area follows the south axis, with bedrooms focused due south to capture the views.
With the space between the two volumes connect by elevated decks on the upper floor and a walk out patio on the lower floor.
