Hidden Secrets is an interior transformation of a brick colonial tucked within Philadelphia’s Main Line suburbs. While traditional in its exterior expression, the home’s interior had become visually cluttered and fragmented over time. The goal was to reimagine the house from the inside out, bringing clarity, cohesion, and a contemporary sensibility to a more compartmentalized plan.
Rather than erase the home’s inherent structure, the project establishes a consistent design language that allows individual rooms to feel connected while retaining their distinct character. A restrained palette of neutral tones, raw steel, rich woods, and natural stone creates continuity across spaces, lending a sense of openness without relying on large-scale demolition. The result is an interior that feels calm, grounded, and quietly modern, while still honoring the home’s traditional framework.
Craft and making are central to the project. Local artisans played a critical role in shaping the experience of the house, contributing forged steel mantels, doors, and stair elements; hand-sanded millwork; and meticulously mitered stone stairs. These details are not decorative gestures, but integral components of the architecture, objects that reward close attention and daily use.
Each crafted element carries its own story, embedded subtly within the home. Together, they reveal the project’s guiding idea: that the most meaningful architecture often lies in what is discovered over time, layered, personal, and quietly enduring.
