The Hidden Lakes Residence is a modern luxury home set on a sloping, wooded site adjacent to a private golf course. At its core, this home embraces the client’s love of golf and architectural experience. The client, the owner of a large window company, charged the design team with two simple things: create an “extraordinary home” and to “use a lot of windows”.
When first visiting the site, the design team was immediately struck by the perfect scenario of the gently sloping site adjacent to the golf course that would allow for the home to dramatically disengage from the site as it extended to the south. Taking advantage of the site’s topography allowed the public spaces of the home - living, dining, and kitchen- to be lifted above the site creating a glass box that feels like it is floating among the trees. This floating volume extends southward along the 17th fairway, offering sweeping views of the golf course to the east and the ravine to the south, while a monolithic concrete fireplace visually and physically anchors the structure. The negative space beneath the glass box creates a covered outdoor living area and deepens the connection to nature and the outdoors.
Guests entering the home are immediately drawn to the floating living room beyond, framed by large windows offering expansive views of the ravine beyond. A gallery with fluted wood paneling leads to the main living and public areas, while the stairs and entry serve as the buffer to the private zones of the home to the west and below.
The home is thoughtfully divided into public and private zones. The public areas are oriented to the east to maximize views of the golf course, while the private spaces, including bedrooms, are positioned to the west for seclusion and views of the wooded areas. Solar orientation is carefully considered, with the pool positioned to capture optimal natural light.
Another unique feature of the home is the Car Salon, a multifunctional space that serves as both a home office, informal living, and a gallery for the client’s Ferrari collection.
The exterior material palette, including blackened steel, board-formed concrete, and cedar cladding combines white oak flooring and interior paneling to create a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere throughout the home, seamlessly blending luxury with warmth.
