Hidden Crane, Lost Mountain is a landscape project we designed for Baihe (white crane in Chinese) Village, a 3A-level scenic spot in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. The project consists of the Crane Pavilion and the Lost Mountain, which would be used as an admission ticket needed attraction for visitors during the tourist season to create a revenue for local villagers, while in the off-season, it could also be taken as a leisure place for the village residents.
As the main building, the Crane Pavilion adopts rigidly connected wall and eave to form a one-sided cantilever. A series of inclined thin steel columns connected to the eave pass through rectangular holes on the wall, which not only support the eave under pressure, but also bear the tensile force under wind suction to ensure the stability of the structure. Wall, eave and columns are integrated into a set of interdependent systems, which together shadows the structural independent brick bench below, so that the pavilion could provide visitors who sit on the bench with a horizontally unfolded, picture-scroll view of the Lost Mountain in woods.
The Lost Mountain is a small maze, with 135 sets of customized partition wall composed of satin stainless-steel plate and prefabricated concrete foundation to define walking paths and multiple rest areas. These walls are scattered in woods, reflecting the shadows of people and trees through the artificial mist, which brings visitors a both real and fantastic tour experience.
