A lot of work I find inspiring and aspire to create is of raw/elemental nature that is based on smart self-organizing system within chaotic appearance and phenomenological effects brought out of the material’s inert properties. The creations of The LAKE AND STARS reminded me of such raw spirit and inspired me to reinvestigate the blown glass modules I and GLEAM previously developed as a two-part research/fabrication/installation project for Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation a few years back. For this scheme, I sought to generate different spatial moods, as we have always done with GLEAM, but engaging a variety of materials to correspond to different programmatic elements involved in a retail space. Elements:The proposal is composed of four major elements in roughly the following sequence: 1. ORIENTATION: super reflective metallic envelope at entrance area (wall/floor/ceiling) 2. THRESHOLD/VEIL: hexagonal wall modules at entrance as a threshold to display area and at rear as base for register before entering VIP area -while the geometry of the modules stay the same, the material will vary from blown glass at the bottom to hot wire cut ESP or laser-cut and folded white paper modules 3. DISPERSION/GROWTH: enlarged hex modules as furniture/display/planter randomly placed at entrance and in the display area 4. LAYER: hexagonal chandelier/clothing rack hanging from ceiling above display & entry area
