The Most Sexy Fries in the Red Light District!
Get dirty fries with Zeedijksaus from the butcher at Frietbordeel in the Red Light District.
Every day, new shops, restaurants, and cafés open in Amsterdam. In our Net open column, you’ll read all about them. Today: at Frietbordeel in the Red Light District, you can get dirty fries with a homemade Zeedijksaus from the nearby butcher.
Recently, Frietbordeel opened its doors in the heart of the Red Light District. Behind this fry shop, located on Korte Niezel, are two young Amsterdam entrepreneurs: brother Bowey (27) and sister Quinty (30) den Ouden.
When you step inside, you might briefly wonder if you've accidentally entered a brothel. With glowing red walls, Betty Boop-style pin-up illustrations in stained glass, and fish scale-patterned wall tiles, the interior playfully nods to the Red Light District. “We really did our best to capture the vibe of the neighborhood here,” says Quinty.
Entrepreneurship in this industry runs in the family. “We are the third generation in the fries business. Our grandfather used to run several FEBO shops. Later, our father took over and bought the FEBO right next to us.”
Inside the fry shop, you’ll see the iconic Andreas crosses everywhere — in the counter, the black-and-white terrazzo floor, and even in the stained glass.
A large mirror on the wall reads: ‘Keep your eyes on the fries.’
