Built in 2008 & photographed in 2013, this large architectural roof garden is a highly sociable green outdoor space, brimming with sculptural elements, seating & unique lighting.
Originally having lawns, railway sleepers, there was nothing worth retaining, so we started over. We designed a diagonal deck leading towards Chelsea Bridge, contrasted by blue sandstone & detailed with LED strip lighting.
Bespoke planters provide bold focal points: 2-tiered & angular to match with the existing architecture. Leading up from an ultra-modern interior, the first sight is a Himalayan birch tree, accompanied by Libertia ‘Goldfinger’.
A duo of stately Olive trees flank the entrance pod, with Agapanthus. Magnolia, Pine, Rosemary & Thyme fill the rooftop with architectural essence which isn’t just dramatic, but also copes well with the highly exposed aspect: blustery & sunny, suitable for these Mediterranean species.
2 seating areas enjoy a 360-degree panorama over London from the 7th floor. A corner bench by Chelsea Bridge, and a one beneath the Pine tree with Battersea Power Station chimneys in full view. London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben & Wembley Arch are on view from various vantage points, giving iconic landmark vistas.
With irrigation & lighting, this architectural roof terrace garden endows a 24/7 leafy refuge. Lighting elevates all the unique characteristics of the flora, with downlighting, uplighting, cavity lights & LED strip lighting which divides the space transversely.
