Entitled ‘Hemispheric’ and sparked by sunsets at sea, Sharma’s greyscale concrete sculpture – was at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2020 in Western Australia – one of the world’s largest public sculpture exhibitions. Fabricated out of natural and pigmented reinforced concrete, the four pieces were sited on the sandy beach, set parallel to the sea and the horizon. Its siting offered visitors an opportunity to reflect on its inspiration - the moment just before the sun dips below the horizon. Sunset marks the moment that we lose natural light – our most important material as architects.
