"Hello Pingtung" is an exhibition that was initiated by a team of young people who returned to their hometown Pingtung, aiming to showcase the current and changing Pingtung to the rest of Taiwan. As most of the Taiwanese are poorly informed about this mainly agricultural state of Pingtung, the team invited the young people who chose to start their own business in their hometown to participate in the exhibition and present themselves as how they are connected to their hometown. The participating units include several food shops, a tattoo studio, a bookstore, a photographer, and some poets.
The venue of the event was at the Songshan Cultural Park in Taipei, a historic building of a previous tobacco factory. With intention to deliver the slow paced lifestyle in Pingtung, the prolonged space was installed with plenty of suspended translucent cotton and hemp fabrics to mimic the clouds surrounding the Dawu Mountain, the iconic landscape in Pingtung. The fabrics were dyed with symbolic colors of blue, green and brown using traditional Hakka fabric dyeing method. A long table was put at the centre of the space along the main circulation with anticipation that the visitors will take their time and stay longer.
The participating units were provided with individual pocket spaces flanking the main circulation. As interaction was emphasised during the exhibition, the seatings at the central long table provided an extention to the pocket spaces for extended conversations.
The exhibition was installed with the teamwork of every participating unit.
