The Hekimbaşı Salih Efendi Waterfront Mansion, one of the distinguished examples of Bosphorus civil architecture, suffered severe structural damage in 2018. This project was developed to document, interpret, and conserve the building’s architectural heritage through comprehensive survey, restitution, and restoration studies. Emergency documentation carried out immediately after the incident provided the foundation for detailed survey drawings, capturing the structure’s condition, materials, and spatial organization.
Measuring approximately 18 x 28 meters, the three-storey mansion combines timber-frame and masonry systems and includes traditional spaces such as selamlık, harem, kitchen, bath, and service areas. The restitution phase focused on reconstructing original features through archival research and physical traces, while the restoration phase aimed to preserve the authentic character, material integrity, and traditional craftsmanship of the building. The project seeks to reintegrate the mansion into the Bosphorus landscape while ensuring the continuity of its historical and cultural identity.
