The Charleston Area Medical Center Heart and Vascular Center was the result of a long-term campus plan and opened in January 2009.
The new facility anchors the east side of the CAMC Memorial Hospital campus in downtown Charleston, consolidating once scattered cardiac services into one location for patient and staff convenience. Consolidation of services also benefits medical staff through increased professional interaction that reinforces CAMC’s “center of excellence” approach.
The new facility also includes approximately 60,000 GSF of new clinic facilities which enables CAMC to serve more patients and enhance the learning experience for West Virginia University medical students. Two floors of the Heart and Vascular Center are dedicated to the Interdisciplinary Clinical Care Education Center – providing internal medicine, family medicine, behavioral care and vascular programs.
The exterior design of the building was driven by the desire to blend with and also extend the image of the existing hospital campus. Building configuration was shaped by the column grid of an existing garage platform.
