My concept for the project was to create a growing space for the residents of the North End Rehabilitation Center as a form of rehabilitation. Most of the residents are life long North Residents with deep Italian roots. The program is based partly on urban agriculture and Italian Villas creating a link back to the heritage of the patients. The sun was the driving force behind the projects organization which dictated growing space. This project also served as the North Ends answer to a healthcare community similar to the West End/Beacon Hill neighborhood and MGH and also to connect the now disjointed neighborhoods on an urban level. The neighborhoods were practically one before the introduction of the Central Artery in the 1950’s.
