ART:LEAK
The purpose of this competition is to design an Arts Center that reinforces the connections between the Bronx and Manhattan communities. The viability of the physical solution is tied to its effectiveness in becoming part of the city’s existing infrastructure and art community.
Concept
The concept involves treating the infrastructure of the existing aquaduct as a conduit for artistic exploration, dissemination and exhibition. Consequently, the bridge will house the three essential elements of the design: Artist Facility, Career Development & Art Promotion. The hope is that. Additionally, the integration of program will provide unique opportunities for artists to connect with their neighbors and vice versa.
The design consists of a serpentine-like structure that visually and programmatically oscillates between program and thruway, greenscape and hardscape; blurring the lines between public and private, exterior and interior. The design culminates in a “almost” suspended performance space that provides expansive views of the city and river.
