The reinvention of Hayden Library, the flagship building of the university’s library system, creates a more engaging, welcoming, and user-friendly structure for its 1.5 million annual visitors. Sensitive additions and modifications to the well-regarded existing mid-century modern exterior reconnect the building to the campus context and a complete renovation of the interior make Hayden an inspiring place to collaborate, learn, create, and innovate. Ayers Saint Gross led the renovation and provided complete programming and project definition to reinvent library services and space to support current and future needs. The latter effort identified significant realignment of the functional space categories, relocation of library volumes, and revisions to staffing models.
