Hayden is located In the industrial heart of Long Island City, the mecca in a swiftly morphing neighborhood. Neukomm developed a strategy to address each space with its own identity and function, while still being part of a whole. He relied heavily on detailing and materials that have traces of the site’s industrial past, while maintaing a rich pallete of textures and modern technologies. This is exhibited in a varied use of translucent and perforated panels, concrete and timber paneling, exposed bulbs veiled behind metal mesh.
The project offered Neukomm the opportunity to work on exterior elements and terraces that are designed in close synchrony with the interior. A 15th floor entertainment space includes a lawn and BBQ pits, and other signature elements are found on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 38th floors. A large gym rounds out the resident public spaces, including a full basketball court floating above the city on the 3rd floor.
