An existing United Services Organization (USO) Federal Recreation Building in Hawthorne, Nevada will be receiving an historic rehabilitation of four interior rooms.
The building was constructed in 1941, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Mineral County was awarded a Community Development Block Grant in 2008 to fund the construction effort and historic preservation plan.
As the primary architect, RAFI will be coordinating the rehabilitation of the USO Building’s auditorium, the stage area, and both backstage areas. A small sound booth control room will be constructed on the west end of the auditorium for theatrical productions.
In addition to overseeing the preparation of the construction bid package, RAFI will prepare a report based on the initial Building Conditions Survey, as well as draft an Historic Preservation Treatment Plan. The Treatment Plan will discuss how the proposed changes preserve historically accurate
