This architectural planning study of Magill Library was conducted for Haverford College to assess whether renovating the current library could meet the current and long-term needs of the campus community. Given the existing structural conditions and the projected need for stack space, it became clear that significant new construction would ultimately be necessary, and the planning study therefore focused on immediate renovation strategies to address the most pressing needs of its users. The recommended scheme proposes small but strategic modifications to the existing building would begin to transform the culture of the campus and the expectations for the future library to be developed on an adjacent site. Preliminary analysis was developed for the relationships between library programs and other learning environments across multiple campus buildings and sites.
