The
simple layout consists of two telescoped cubes. All the essential functions are
situated on one level. These functions are embraced in the cubes and still
identifiable from the outside. The roof of the bigger box, which contains the
living area, overhangs protectively the smaller, sleeping box. According to the
needs of living and relaxing, the heights of the rooms are adequately adapted. Both
of the telescoped cubes have total glass facades on the garden side. The
other fronts received selective openings. As a result of the visual connection,
the swimming pool, garden and terrace become part of the daily living routine. By using the same floor material, the terrace forms a visual extension of the
compact living area into the garden. At night, the reflection from the lighted
water dances on the porch and the ceilings inside the house. Because of the special
arrangement of the building, the L-form offers an important windbreak for the
terrace. In contrast to the wide openings to the garden side the flush, outward
opening, smaller windows on the other sides support the feeling of protection
against the surrounding buildings. To make the basement usable as a bonus
space for a recovery area, the prefabricated concrete walls were sand-streamed
and wide windowsills have been used. The colour and appearance of the used
materials have been kept as natural as possible. Therefore the colour palette
is restricted to white, beige and bay-coloured as well as the aquatic blue.
