How private or how public do we want our homes to be today? How should 200 m² living space be structured for four persons in a meaningful way? How can high-quality exterior space, coherent with the interior space, be organised on 500 m²? These were decisive questions for the contribution towards the architectural competition entitled "Das Haus der Gegenwart" (Contemporary House), which was organised by the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. The result is a house which turns the normal structures of a single-family home upside down. The private areas are on the ground floor, each with individual entrances, bathrooms and gardens. Separate staircases connect to the communal living space above.
