Located in the hill city of Sri Lanka, amidst the vast greenery lies #28, tucked lightly within nature itself. Prioritizing a low impact to the existing terrain, the building is elevated above ground with the added benefit of capturing the sight of the city and mountains through the tree canopy around it.
#28 is a self-catering boutique hotel that makes the use of the smart hotel system which allows the guests to get advantage of using the building without the assistance of a hotel staff. Guests will check in and check out through smart technology while payments will be managed through an online system, making #28 an ideal getaway even during a pandemic.
The elevated structure allows parking and services at the ground level. First floor acts as the main space with a terrace on the roof level. Ramps and stairs lead the way up to the main spaces.The form of the building is derived to maximize the view while simultaneously embracing an intimacy with nature.
The hotel has three private sections which are intertwined by one common, uniting volume. Each private section include a bedroom with a private terrace, personal workspace, a carefully designed bathroom with a Jacuzzi that frames distant views. In between these sections is a spacious living area and a dining with kitchen. All these spaces have large openings that give visual access to the extraordinary tree canopy in and around the site.
Trees grow through and beyond the roof terrace, merging with nature and creating a feeling of being in outdoors.
The all-black, exposed concrete walls and steel structure hide into the mini forest around the building. Steel structure compliment the concrete finishes while the glazed aluminum and timber windows contribute to integrate with the surrounding nature.
