NVA’s Glasgow Harvest 2011 was a celebration of local food which happened at four sites - North, East, South and West - in Autumn 2011. The events were an irreverent homage to the village fête, with live music, communal cooking, food sharing and new works designed and created by artists for each event. Harvest is inspired by the people, food, community and places that make urban growing in Glasgow so unique.
Pidgin Perfect worked with the growing community at Kennyhill Community Allotments and Garden in Riddrie, the hosts for Harvest East to create a permanent built artwork. Over July and August we held a series of conversations, workshops and creative engagements with the community working towards the installation of a Community Dining Table on site in time for Harvest East, September 2011.
The Community Dining Table was unveiled at Harvest East and was incredibly well received by the plot holders, local community and arts community whom all attended the event. The permanence of the artwork creates a long lasting legacy from Harvest East and provides the community with a new place within the rich garden spaces of the allotments to come together and share not only locally grown food but also stories and inspirations from the past.
