RODE Architects Inc serves as the local associate architect to Daly Genik Architects of Santa Monica, CA. The project adapts a former museum carpentry shop and mechanical space into a highly functional library for studying visual images. A suspended metal ceiling system will transmit an even level of light while shielding extensive overhead utilities.
The Media Slide Library (MSL) project is the relocation of a component of Harvard University’s Fine Arts Library, currently located in the Fogg Museum in Cambridge, MA. While the Fogg undergoes a massive renovation and addition by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the MSL will be moved nearby to the Sackler Museum. The MSL has a collection of over 60,000 photographic slides housed in 120 metal cabinets. It is a place where the History of Art and Architecture faculty and students access visual information to supplement their studies. An ongoing scanning operation also utilizes the collection. The new space will contain work areas for both photographic and digital formats plus the supporting librarians.
