Traditionalism lends itself to experiencing the history of the home while a contemporary intervention realigns the spaces to our zeitgeist and allows new memories and patinas to form. We perceive tension as beauty. When mindfully crafted, it is transformative and allows dualities to synthesize. In this project, diametrics such as light/shadow, individual/collective, contraction/expansion, active/passive, will all play a critical role in our design process. We also recognize the body’s desire for exploration in space and propose to intuitively activate the senses throughout the home. Memories of space are often born through these connections. Our design interventions will encourage rituals of inward pause and reflection as well as outward expansion to nature and the urban context.
