As part of a larger renovation to an existing historic home, we included two digitally fabricated components which sought to connect to the historic detailing of the house within a modern idiom. We designed a CNC (computer navigated cut) ceiling which borrowed expressions - such as ‘braiding’, ‘pearling’, ‘looping’, etc - from the detailing of the 1908 built home it was going into. This ceiling forms the upper limit of a seventeen foot space and helps focus the room and impart scale to an otherwise very tall space.
