The balustrade - designed for an overlook just below this ceiling - was designed using Maya, a 3D modeling program, made by gathering portraits of the family living in the home. Using the software, we ‘spun’ the profile of each family member’s face 360 degrees around an axis before it spiraled upward along the shaft. We used a digital lathe to cut its forms. This piece was fabricated using high density foam in collaboration with Machine Histories.
