A New Community Hub for Hangzhou’s Asian Games Village
As part of Hangzhou’s ongoing urban evolution, Hangzhou Asiad MixC World introduces a lively new community hub to the city’s Asian Games Village – where architecture, nature, and social activity converge within a human-centred retail environment.
Conceived within the revitalisation of Hangzhou’s Asian Games Village, the mixed-use development adds a new dimension to lifestyle-led design in one of the city’s most transformation districts.
The first MixC World in Hangzhou for China Resources Land, the 100,000 sqm scheme establishes a dynamic commercial, leisure, and social heart for the Asiad precinct. Lead8 was responsible for the retail architectural design, ensuring a seamless connection with the adjoining office and hotel towers designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF).
At the heart of Lead8’s design philosophy for Asiad MixC World lies a commitment to creating a distinctive community destination that celebrates scale, movement, and experience.
Layered Architecture and Open Spaces
The architectural expression combines intersecting volumes and bold geometric forms, embodying an “Urban Rubik’s Cube” concept that enlivens the streetscape and encourages exploration. The result is a multidimensional environment where visitors can connect, shop, dine, and gather within a lively semi-open setting that remains distinctly human in scale.
The vision was to craft a place that invites discovery and interaction, by layering spatial variety and integrating the design with public life, allowing Asiad MixC World to resonate beyond its retail function, to become part of Hangzhou’s evolving cultural and social identity.
The development provides a platform for more than 260 domestic and international brands, including flagship tenants such as Pop Mart, Hema supermarket, and MixC Cinema, alongside high-end lifestyle, sports, and youth-focused labels.
Open public spaces, landscaping, and interactive installations complement fluid pedestrian routes that weave together indoor and outdoor environments, reinforcing the project’s role as a year-round destination for the community.
As Hangzhou continues to evolve its post-Asian Games urban vision, Asiad MixC World stands as a model for vibrant, community-centric design – shaping a connected, experiential future for the city’s Asian Games Village.
