Located in Niseko, Hokkaido (Japan), which is known for its world-class quality snow and recently being developed as a ski resort, HANGETSU is a two-story wood frame condominium building.
HANGETSU means “half-moon” in Japanese. The use of corten steel and zinc-coated steel sheets represents this concept in an abstract way.
The exterior of the building expresses Japanese aesthetics such as “wabi-sabi” and harmony, in which two conflicting notions heighten each other’s quality.
Whilst the surface of corten steel absorbs reflected light, zinc-coated steel creates a dull glow just like moon, making the architecture perfectly blend in the surrounding nature.
The gradual changes of materials weathered over time are there to further increase the beauty of this building.
This condominium is designed principally for tenants from foreign countries, wishing them to have a good time in an exotic land with the pleasure to own a condo conceived with Japanese traditional aesthetics.
