This new pre-kindergarten project was designed for an unoccupied space at HANAC, a new senior residential facility in Corona, Queens. HANAC was designed and being built to Passive House standards, so we collaborated with the building architect and the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) to achieve a design that met both Passive House standards and SCA design requirements. The new three-classroom school includes a nurse’s office, a play yard, and administrative spaces. This project is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten Initiative and is believed to be the first Passive-House pre-kindergarten in the country.
